Ukraine possesses a wide range of capabilities – both resources and finance - to become completely self-sufficient on domestic energy production in a few years and introduce programs on efficient consumption of energy carriers, stated Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman during the Gov’t session.

He drew attention to the fact that tariffs and quality of utilities are among the most urgent and recurring. Meanwhile, finding the solutions to those depends on the systematic work of central and local authorities.

"Appropriate energy saving measures would affect utility bills towards two-threefold reduction. An essential issue is how much thermal energy we consume, and energy efficiency topic goes here to the fore", said Volodymyr Groysman. "Boiler houses should be modern and highly efficient, pipes to the buildings - replaced and insulated so that not to warm the ground and air. In buildings it is necessary to insulate walls, install windows, customized heat supply stations that do not allow heat loss. This is a matter of regulation and consumption. And the responsibility lies within the local authorities."

The Head of Government stressed that a resource worth over UAH 100 billion as additional revenues is concentrated in the regions, therefore they have everything necessary to take relevant measures.

"Ukraine should become an energy efficient and energy independent state," highlighted Volodymyr Groysman. "Over the next few years, we will become completely sustainable in domestic gas production to satisfy internal needs, and we will launch the process of a systemic reduction of gas prices. This would be the right step."

Moreover, the Head of Government reminded that this year the Energy Efficiency Fund would commence operation in Ukraine as an instrument of energy modernization, including the housing stock, and a tool to provide assistance to local budgets. "I want to thank the international partners for the comprehensive support of the Fund," the Prime Minister added.
