Prime Minister: Debt burden is a challenge, though a policy to boost economy would enable Government to reduce it

Ukraine has high debt burden on the budget formed by borrowings of past periods, but the Government's policy aimed at strengthening the economy will allow in the medium term to reduce the level of debt and overcome this challenge. Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman announced during A Question Time for the Government at the Verkhovna Rada.

He stressed that a strong economy would open up opportunities for investment, while a change in the structure of industry – for boosting production volumes of domestic competitive product. "To do this, we need a number of legislative initiatives be passed. We are following this way", said Volodymyr Groysman. "It weren’t us who created such (debt) burdens, but we must take responsibility to pay off these debts. This is an enormous challenge! Our commitment in the medium and long term is to reduce debt due to filling the budget. It is necessary to eliminate budget shortfalls that occur through plundering funds. We must unite behind that and work in synergy".
