Prime Minister about the inspection of public institutions: I will not tolerate lack of order and responsibility

A key problem that leads to horrible tragedies causing loss of human lives in public places is the lack of order and responsibility accumulated over the years, claimed Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman during a Government session.

In the course of the meeting the Head of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine Mykola Chechotkin delivered a speech. He presented preliminary results of inspections of large public places on compliance with fire safety standards.

The Prime Minister once again emphasized the core objective of inspections - not fines, but the real safety of people. "We are dealing with irresponsibility, thus disregard of safety norms leads to the victims. We will not put up with a barbaric breach of rules", the Head of Government stressed. We will constantly monitor the situation".

Moreover, Volodymyr Groysman underlined refusal to implement the recommendations of the controllers is unacceptable.

"We will bring those who ignore demands to strengthen  the security of people to the responsibility. I call for the safety of citizens. Do not try our patience, the Head of Government underscored, while addressing to the owners of public places. - We will put things right all over the country".

Background

On March 28, Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman commissioned the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (hereinafter - SES), Ministry of Regional Development, Building, Housing and Utilities of Ukraine and other state authorities to carry out a thorough inspection of public places, schools, and shopping centers  in order to verify compliance with fire safety norms. The Head of Government  made this statement during a CMU session in the context of the events in the Russian city of Kemerovo, where on March 25, a fire swept through the mall causing the death of dozens of people, mostly children.

The Prime Minister stressed that such events should be prevented,  hence this requires a control system.

According to the date released by the State Emergency Service, at present  1319 objects have been checked, including schools, hospitals, shopping centers. More than 15 thousand violations were detected. The worst situation with the implementation of recommendations is in Donetsk, Sumy and Ternopil regions.
